About Me & My Mission

Hi! My name is Elizabeth Varghese and I am a rising senior in high school. I am interested in Computer Science and am passionate about promoting, encouraging, empowering, and inspiring young girls to pursue a career in S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

I have always been interested in Computer Science as I am able to express my creativity through the various things I code. It all started when I was introduced to S.T.E.M. careers as a young girl by attending a girl's conference. Shortly thereafter, I began learning how to code on Khan Academy and had so much fun. This is where my interest in Computer Science sparked. So, I continued to code and began learning HTML and Python. When I entered my Computer Science class in my freshman year of high school, I realized that there was a large gender gap. In other S.T.E.M. related classes, clubs, and competitions, I noticed the same pattern- there were far more male students than females. I wondered why this may be and researched about it. I will be talking about this in my first blog post (go read it!).

I was empowered by female leaders through the conferences I attended, so I want to give back and do the same for other young girls. I have always been taught to pursue my dreams, overcome challenges, and stand up for what I believe in. This is the reason I created this website/initiative. I want to empower and inspire girls to pursue their dream in S.T.E.M., in an effort to decrease this gender gap.

I will be posting blogs about the stories of women in S.T.E.M., current topics in these fields to spark your interest, and different careers and majors you can do! I hope to see you then!
